The Secondary School of Applied Arts in Kosice in Slovakia is a vocational art school with rich tradition, situated in metropolis of Eastern Slovakia. Since medieval times Kosice has been an important center of cultural life, a crossroad of cultures, link between surrounding nations and minorities, such as Hungarian, Ukrainian, German, Gypsy and Czech. Kosice is also an industrial centre of Eastern Slovakia surrounded by rural areas of Eastern and Central part of country. For this reason, the school has many students from these areas, and many of them are from economically and socially disadvantaged families. The school will initiate the Puzzle Project as part of the Comenius Project. This will open the Puzzle Installation & Collaborative Project up to other schools in Europe.
The schools participating in the Comenius project are:
-The Secondary School of Visual Arts in Ostrava in the Czech Republic
-Brigshaw High School and Language College in Leeds in Great Britain
-Papst-Johannes XXIII Gesamtschule in Stommeln-Pulheim in Germany
-Istituto Tecnico Commerciale e per Geometri in Pescara in Italy
The schools in The Czech Republic, England, Germany & Italy also participate in the puzzle project. All of the schools will be sending their puzzle pieces to NYC to join the larger installation.
